FAQs

Here are some of BST's most frequently Asked questions:

How long are sessions?

Tuition sessions are 55 minutes long which then allows 5 minutes for some brief feedback and questions at collection. Children will also bring home a feedback card but if you would like further detail, please do not hesitate to ask.

Where do tuition sessions take place?

Tuition sessions take place at the Bright Star Tuition cabin in Hadrian Close, West Parley, BH22 8RQ. It is stocked with a range of resources for reading, writing, maths, verbal reasoning and even some science, geography and history!

What happens during the school holidays and bank holidays?

I believe it is really important for progress to try to avoid long gaps in learning so we do continue with sessions during the school holidays and on bank holidays. However, I also know that you may have exciting plans during this time so we will be able to move your sessions if given 21 days notice. Similarly, I will let you know with at least 3 weeks notice if BST will be closed for my own time off with my family!

What are the benefits of group tuition?

The benefits from group tuition are endless! Children can still receive an extremely high-quality , tailored approach to learning whilst being able to seek immediate feedback, support and challenge. Working in a small group also enables the sessions to be more interactive and children can share ideas, work collaboratively to solve problems and learn from each other! It can be a less intense, more sociable option for children who enjoy the company of their peers.

What teaching experience do you have?

I began with experience volunteering in primary schools whilst training for my teaching qualification and had placements in several local schools in both KS1 and KS2. When I qualified, I worked at a local junior school where I stayed for 11 years. During that time, I taught across KS2 which included 6 years in year 6. This was invaluable for developing an in-depth understanding of the curriculum, how best to prepare children for SATs and also the transition to secondary. I took on the role of English Lead and also moderated writing for BCP local authority which further developed my understanding of the teaching and learning of English and writing in primary schools. My time in KS1, working with phonics sets in year 3 and working as English Lead, has also given me a great understanding of phonics and the best ways to support children with their early reading.

What qualifications do you have?
